Acute prescribed medicine
Acute prescribed medicine is medicine that you generally do not have to take for a long time and the condition you are taking it for clears up.

Prescribed medicine is paid from the day-to-day benefits
The Society pays for acute prescribed medicine from your day-to-day benefits, as long as you have money available.
We pay medicine up to the Society Rate for medicine.
We classify medicine into categories
The medicine categories are:
- Acute prescribed medicine
- Over-the-counter and lifestyle enhancing medicine
- Medicine that is given to you on discharge from hospital
- Excluded items, like contact lens solutions
Paying for acute prescribed medicine (schedule 3 and above)
BMW Employees Medical Aid Society pays for prescribed medicine up to 100% of the Society Rate for medicine from your day-to-day benefits, as long as you have money available. On-generic medication is paid at 75% of the Society Rate.
Paying for over-the-counter medicine
We pay for schedule 0, 1 and 2 (over-the-counter) medicine from your day-to-day benefits, up to an annual rand limit for each person
Medicine to take home from hospital (TTO)
Medicine that you receive on discharge from hospital, is paid from your overall annual limit if you obtain it on the date of discharge. Alternatively, it is limited to day-to-day benefits, as long as you have money available.
